A 19-year-old man who ripped an expensive necklace from a woman, then threw it away, has been given a suspended jail term and ordered to pay his victim £1,000 compensation.
Hamzah Malik was told by a judge that he was a “cocky young man.”
Malik, of Blackberry Way, Clayton, Bradford, admitted robbing the woman outside the post office in Clayton Road, on June 1.
Sentencing him at Bradford Crown Court yesterday, Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC told him: “I don’t know what’s going on in your head.”
Malik was sentenced to 12 months in a young offenders institution suspended for two years. He will have to carry out 250 hours of unpaid work, abide by a curfew, between 1am and 7am, for six months, and carry out an activity requirement.
The judge told Malik he must do as he is told.
